Celebrating the life of

Adele Blythe Hewitt

September 19, 1955 - August 26, 2014

Devoted Wife and Mother

Adele Blythe Hewitt

Adele Blythe Hewitt, 58, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Candler Hospital. She was born in Auckland, New Zealand to Gerald Blythe and Joyce Taylor Blythe. Adele attended schools in the Auckland area and graduated with a B.A. in Music from the University of Auckland. Soon afterwards she enrolled in a teaching training college and taught music in a local school. In 1979 Adele moved to the United States and travelled around the West Coast and Canada with friends. She settled down in Phoenix, AZ, working in Ramada Inn Headquarters’ accounting office. Discovering that she thoroughly loved accounting, she attended Arizona State University at night; subsequently, she took all five CPA exams in one sitting, passing everyone in the high 90’s to 100 percent and earning her CPA certification. From there she moved on to FFCA, an investment firm in Scottsdale, AZ. It was in Scottsdale that she met Nathan Hewitt and they married in 1991 having services both in New Zealand and Arizona. Nathan joined Gulfstream in 1992 and relocated to Savannah with Adele joining shortly. She joined Parent & Child as Director of Finance in Savannah and involved herself and Nathan in many special projects including fund raising and the Youth Estate. In 1995 Adele left Parent and Child for her most important job: to be a mother. While raising her young daughter, she continued to be active in the community as a board member and tutor for R.A.L.P, a literacy program in Savannah. Adele’s church memberships included St. Michael’s and All Angels Episcopal Church and Christ Church Anglican (CCA). She was a member of the choir at CCA, part of the Inter Faith Hospitality, board member of E.Y.C.S. (Episcopal Youth Community Scholarship) for several years, and the Fiber Guild which knitted items full of prayers for those who were ill or needed prayer. She also volunteered at Hancock Day School where she assisted with fund raising and class activities. When her daughter moved to Savannah Christian Preparatory School, Adele helped with a few activities as well. For several years Adele attended Community Bible Study and served as the Assistant Teaching Director at the time of her death. Adele had a generous, kind, and compassionate spirit; she deeply loved her family and friends. She was more than willing to help anyone in the church, neighborhood, or community.

Surviving are her husband, Nathan Hewitt of Savannah; daughter, Katherine Hewitt of Savannah; siblings, Russell Ennis (Rose), Kevin Ennis, Rochelle Blythe (Jeremy), Elizabeth Blythe (Chris) all of Auckland; step-mother and good friend, Valerie Blythe of Auckland and several aunts, uncles, cousins, a niece and a nephew in Auckland.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 1, 2014 at Grace United Methodist Church with The Reverend Marcus B. Robertson officiating.

Remembrances: Humane Society for Greater Savannah, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406 or Savannah Community Bible Study Day Class, 4 Bransby Drive, Savannah, GA, 31406.

I grew to know and love Adele through Community Bible Study. My maiden name is Hewitt and we shared that bond, as well as my grandaughter who is the same age as Katherine, although they didn't know each other. She was truly a Godly woman who walked the talk and I will be forever blessed for knowing her. My heart aches for all of you, but rejoices in knowing that she is with our Lord. in Christian love, Belle Hewitt Ralston
